ATLAB GROUP FIRST FULL-SCALE DIGITAL INTERMEDIATE (DI)

IMAGICA Corp., Tokyo, Japan, Tokyo, Japan, announced that the Atlab Group, Artamon, Australia, has purchased the IMAGER XE(R) -ADVANCED digital film scanner. In addition, Atlab has upgraded its current IMAGICA scanner, the IMAGER XE(R), to the new ADVANCED, for a total of 2 scanners in-house. These scanners will be utilized in Atlab's new larger facility, which will focus heavily on DI in addition to traditional post-production scanning and recording.

The Atlab Group has the largest film processing laboratory and post-production facilities in the Australasian region, with operations in Sydney & Melbourne, Australia, Auckland in New Zealand and the Warner Roadshow Studios in Queensland.

Anthos Simon, Atlab's NSW General Manager, comments; "Atlab set out to create a Digital Intermediate (DI) facility that could handle multiple projects at once. We needed to increase our capacity for high resolution scanning to meet our clients ever increasing deadlines. We decided to buy a second machine and upgrade our current scanner so we could have to identical high-speed machines within our digital department. The Imagica XE(R) scanner has proven to be a reliable workhorse time and time again. The XE(R) Advanced takes high resolution scanning to an even higher level than before and offers Atlab greater speed and quality."

Mr. Makoto Tsukada, Director of the Engineering Solutions Division at IMAGICA, says, "We're delighted that Atlab has purchased our newest scanner to meet its increasing scanning requirements. As one of the largest facilities in the Australasian region, we know the increased speed and quality of the IMAGER XE(R)-ADVANCED will help it meet its demanding deadlines, especially as it moves into the DI market".

The IMAGER XE(R) -ADVANCED scans 4096 pixels across a 35mm Academy frame and provides cineon format with full RGB color space (14bit A/D). The IMAGER XE(R) - ADVANCED scans 2 seconds per frame for 2K down sampling and 4 seconds per frame for 4K original sampling with a new 5K- camera system.

IMAGICA scanners have been used on such films as The Aviator, Ocean's Twelve, Spider-Man 2, The Lord of the Rings Trilogies, Van Helsing, The Village, Finding Neverland, The Life Aquatic of Steve Zissou, The Passion of The Christ, America's Heart and Soul, National Treasure, and many others.
