IMAGICA PRODUCTS SPEED SCANNING FOR TOP FEATURE FILMS
Company's Solutions Support 2K and 4K for Projects from "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" to "Hustle & Flow"
Las Vegas, NV - NAB 2006, Booth#SL1826 (April 24, 2006)- IMAGICA Corp. announced today continued momentum for the use of IMAGICA products in blockbuster feature films. Solutions in the company's line of professional 2K/4K film scanners, including the Imager XE Advanced Plus, have been adopted by leading facilities such as EFILM, Deluxe/Sound & Picture, Fotokem Film & Video, Lowry Digital, Sony Pictures Imageworks and Technicolor to provide high quality and speed for today's post-production, digital intermediate and visual effects workflows.
Sony Pictures Imageworks has been a longtime IMAGICA customer, and purchased its first 3000V film scanner over ten years ago. The industry and technology have come a long way since then, and this year alone, Imageworks projects such as "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe," "Zathura," "Bewitched" and "The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio" were scanned on an IMAGICA Imager XE Advanced.
"We run a 24/7 operation and reliability is a key factor in selecting gear for our DI pipeline. Scanners from IMAGICA have always proven to be very reliable and the company provides great customer service," commented Dennis Webb, Director of Film I/O, Sony Pictures Imageworks. "Imagica has a track record for delivering high quality products and I look forward to evaluating their next generation HSX scanner."
Fotokem Film & Video in Burbank, CA, uses its IMAGICA scanners for virtually every picture that comes through the premises. Projects over the past year include "Serenity," "Lords of Dogtown" and "Hustle & Flow," which garnered Audience and Cinematography Awards at Sundance 2005.
Other movies scanned with IMAGICA products include "Dark Water," "The Ring 2," "The Longest Yard," "Into the Sun," "Hide and Seek," "Magnificent Desolation: Walking on the Moon 3D" (IMAX), "Saw II" and "National Treasure." In addition to these Hollywood features, customers from Toronto, Canada, and India to Turkey and Thailand continue to use IMAGICA scanners around the globe.
"IMAGICA scanners continue to be relied on as the professional solution for a huge range of films," said Makoto Tsukada, Managing Executive Officer, Engineering Solutions Division, IMAGICA Corp. "Whether it's an epic, visual effects-packed movie, an independent feature or an IMAX 3D release, customers rely on IMAGICA scanners to deliver top quality picture."
The Imager XE Advanced Plus scans 35mm motion picture film debuted last year with capabilities including scan rates of 1.9 seconds per frame for 4K and 1.3 second per frame for 2K. 35mm 3perf, 8perf and 16mm/Super 16mm are also available as options. At NAB 2006, IMAGICA is rolling out a Wetgate option that will reduce the cost of the dust and scratch removal for restoration and remastering.
Also at NAB 2006, IMAGICA will debut its new Imager HSX, featuring impressive scan times of one frame per second in 4K resolution, or three frames per second at 2K. HSX uses a newly developed CMOS area sensor and LED illumination system, and will be on display at the IMAGICA Booth #SL1826 April 24-27, 2006 at NAB.
